Story

Innovating PLATES

for a

global palate.

The Lane is a neighbourhood wine bar and restaurant run by two friends with a serious passion for food and wine. We wanted to create a cosy and relaxed place where people could meet friends and like-minded fellows to discover great food and beautiful wine — something in the style of the Continental Enotecas and neighbourhood bistros we know and love.

Situated in one of the finest medieval laneways in Galway, Kirwans Lane, which is now in the heart of The Latin Quarter. This lane was originally within the city walls and is named after one of Galways fourteen tribes.

At The Lane Wine Bar we have an extensive, primarily, Old World, wine list, focusing on real wines that reflect a sense of place with producers who mainly use organic and bio-dynamic practices and rare grape varietals with a nod to sustainability.

We highlight beloved regions of the Loire, Languedoc, Ribero del Duero, Rioja and the enticing oxidative styles of the Jura, while also listing wilder wines yielded from Old World . Our independent merchants allow us to forever evolve the list, experimenting with a variety of styles and winemakers. Some wines only made available in finite quantities - when they are gone, they are gone. We love learning about wine and sharing our discoveries with our customers. There’s no snobbery here, just a passion and enthusiasm for delicious wine.

We believe in serving simple, beautiful food. That's why we source the best available ingredients and make everything in-house where possible. We’re proud to work with local suppliers who share our quest for perfection. From the homemade breads, artisan-crafted cheeses and charcuterie, our kitchen is a treasure trove of gastronomic goodness. We endeavour to cater for every taste, serving cheese boards, meat boards, fish platters and vegan friendly boards or any combination of these.
